If you think "tee time" means a walk on the links, then you've come to the right place! Whatcom County has some of the finest public golf courses and championship-caliber private courses in Western Washington. There are 14 courses in Whatcom County – the most per capita in the state – that have earned accolades from major golf magazines and travel publications and that have hosted many pro and amateur tournaments. Many offer private lessons and golfers can play year-round, as well. Just remember that if you’re teeing off in the winter months, be prepared to get a little wet even if you can steer clear of water hazards. The courses offer a wide variety of play and nearly all of the courses offer stunning views of Mount Baker or the San Juan Islands.

Raspberry Ridge Golf Course
This 9-hole, par 34 course was built on the area's natural topography, giving it superior drainage and the ability to stay open in the rainy winter months. There are open fairways, well-bunkered greens, and some fun challenges. Good for all skill levels in any season.

Named after one of the Cascade peaks in the near distance, Shuksan is a course that varies over 100 feet in elevation. The layout occupies a rural setting split by Ten Mile Creek, which meanders through the fairways with alarming regularity. With terrain ranging from steep ridges to gentle meadows, the 6737 yard course provides eighteen distinct landscape canvases on which to paint your own masterpieces.

The front nine is relatively open and flat and borders the shores of Lake Whatcom. Fairway landing areas are relatively generous and the greens are large. However, the back nine follows a ridge uphill with narrow evergreen-fringed fairways and smaller greens that have more character. Sudden Valley is considered a true masterpiece, stressing finesse and accuracy with water hazards on fourteen of the eighteen holes and some forty-seven bunkers sprinkled throughout the course. It's a golfing experience you will not soon forget!
